STATEMENT - VALE MAX WALKER - WEDNESDAY, 28 SEPTEMBER 2016

28 September 2016

Labor acknowledges the sad passing of much-loved Australian cricketing icon Max Walker.

Max ‘Tangles’ Walker made an enormous contribution to Australia’s sporting history, playing 34 Tests for Australia and 70 first-class games for Victoria.

Not only a great Australian test cricketer, but a talented Australian Rules Footballer, Max played a total of 85 games for the Melbourne Football Club.

Max was also incredibly successful off the pitch, hosting a range of sporting shows on television and radio, reading sports news and writing books.

His service to cricket and the community was recognised in 2011 when he was named a Member of the Order of Australia.

On behalf of the Labor Party, we extend our deepest sympathies to Max’s family and friends.
