Maribyrnong Small Business Roundtable

Small businesspeople from Melbourne’s West will have a chance to meet the new Australian Small Business Commissioner and the Fair Work Ombudsman, at a roundtable organised by the Member for Maribyrnong, Bill Shorten.

Mr Shorten brought together Chambers of Commerce and Traders Associations from throughout the Maribyrnong electorate to form a Small Business Roundtable twice last year.

“The Roundtable is an important group that gives small businesspeople a direct line to government and allows them to discuss the full range of issues that affect their businesses and families,” Mr Shorten said.

“At our last meeting I gave an undertaking to arrange for members to meet with the new Small Business Commissioner, and also provide representatives from the Fair Work Ombudsman, and Superannuation Clearing House.”

“These representatives will give a short presentation about the work they do and the services they can provide to make life easier for people working long hours at the coalface of their business. There will also be a question and answer session.”

The meeting will be held at the Clocktower Centre in Moonee Ponds on the morning of Wednesday the 6th of March.

Presentations will be made by the newly appointed Commonwealth Small Business Commissioner, Mr Mark Brennan, Fair Work Ombudsman Mr Nick Wilson, and a representative from the Superannuation Clearing House.

  • The Small Business Commissioner provides advocacy and representation of small business interests and concerns to the Australian Government.

  • The Fair Work Ombudsman is an independent statutory office that provides information  and advice about Australian workplace rights and responsibilities.

  • The Superannuation Clearing House is a free online super payments service for businesses with fewer than 20 employees, which allows super contributions to be paid in one transaction. It is aimed at reducing red tape and making compliance easier for small businesses.

Please note the meeting itself is closed to media, although access can be arranged for photographs. Please contact Jayne Edwards for more details.
