LONDON ATTACK - MONDAY, 19 JUNE 2017

19 June 2017

Labor condemns the deliberate attack in London overnight, which is being investigated as a possible terrorist attack and which appears to have targeted people of the Islamic faith after their late night prayers for Ramadan.

All victims have been identified by British authorities as being of the Muslim faith.

We offer our condolences to the victims and their families and wish those injured a full and speedy recovery.

We condemn this attack it in the strongest possible terms, particularly as it appears designed to target people freely expressing their faith in a manner afforded to them by one of the world’s oldest democracies.

We know terrorism has no respect for faith. Terrorism is an affront to all peace-loving people in countries around the world, regardless of religion.

Once again, our oldest friend is confronting what appears to have been a calculated act of division and hate with tolerance and solidarity.

Yet again, London is showing its strength in the face of a cowardly and calculated assault.

As we always have, Australia stands with the people of Britain. They are in our hearts tonight.
